Good Eats: Taste of Texas

Birthday dinner with my family (2 members missing)

I’m rocking my clutch from Spoiled Diva!

I ordered a 16 oz steak:

YUM! I got a little too full off the bread to fully enjoy it, so I took it home!

At the end of the meal, our waitress brought out the desert cart. They gave me a complimentary desert with sparkler candles (it’s crazy that I’d been wanting sparklers this whole time!). They also took a picture of me and  brought it to us inside a birthday card as we were  leaving.

So many to choose from!!

Verdict:

I liked the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and the birthday perks were excellent. However, when we walked into the restaurant, they predicted an hour-long wait! Thankfully, it wasn’t nearly that long. It’s clearly a popular place, but it was calm and cozy on the inside. We were a tad overdressed. Most people wore nice jeans and shirts.

It’s a Texas-style restaurant, with Texas-style potions, and a Texas-style price tag. The food was on the expensive side. On the plu-side, the unlimited salad bar was great and had a lot to choose from.

Bottom line: I will probably not have the luxury of visiting this restaurant again, unless there is a very very very special occasion. This place definitely qualifies as “Good Eats” material, as long as you can foot the bill.

Good Eats: Breakfast Klub

Breakfast + Dinner

Chicken + Waffles

They don’t seem like they should go together but they just do! I finally tried The Breakfast Klub and boy am I glad I did! I had chicken n’ waffles N’ catfish. Good stuff!

It brought back great memories of when my cousin hosted a chicken n’ waffle brunch at her house. We brought the KFC, she made the waffles with her waffle maker (wedding gift). We had so much fun. So chicken and waffles will always have a place in my heart and stomach.

Breakfast Klub gets my stamp of approval :)

Good Eats: Pinewood Cafe

Grilled Cheese & steak sandwich with a side of apples

Yesterday, my buddy Tobi and I were doing a Jump Houston adventure. We went to Hermann Park and stopped by a cute little restaurant called Pinewood Café, as per the recommendation of the super-friendly owners of RevolutionEBikes (an electric bike rental shop).

They recommended we try a grilled cheese sandwich. At first, I was reluctant to buy a bread and cheese I could make at home. I was pleasantly surprised to find I had the option of adding a protein to the sandwich with no extra cost. I added steak, Tobi had chicken. As soon as I bit into my Grilled Cheese & steak sandwich with a touch of cilantro, I realized every bite was worth the $5 that I paid for it!  I like to keep my sandwich toppings bare to none, but I was impressed by the variety of toppings I could have put on the sandwich. I wanted apple slices, just not in the sandwich, so I opted to have them on the side. The meal was delicious and I was surprisingly full from the average size sandwich.

I give this restaurant my NC stamp of approval without hesitation! I was satisfied with the sandwich. In fact, I wouldn’t mind trekking to Hermann Park right now for another one!

Houston: High Fashion Home

Today, after a hard day of PPR test prep, I went to check out High Fashion Home with my friend/co-worker Adrian. High Fashion Home is like, according to Adrian, IKEA-meets- Urban Outfitters. I’m inclined to agree with her. Their fabric store across the street is like a JoAnn’s craft store. As someone who loves interior design, I loved the way they decorated living rooms, couches, and beds with bright fabrics and bold prints. Adrian was having a hard time not drooling too.

I felt like a kid in a toy store. There was so much to see!

I saw cute little armchairs, delectable low beds, and I finally saw the stupendous floating bookshelves I’ve been seeing all over Pinterest. The best part was that everything was all out in the open and you could sit on the furniture to see if you liked it:

We saw some chairs with a lot of character!
We got to try several couches…not all were a good fit.

It was a great trip. We didn’t buy anything but we sure were inspired to upgrade our living spaces.

Highlight of the trip:

Adrian finally providing me with proof that chartreuse is a real color and not a bougie invention of her imagination. Please forgive my ignorance!

Good Eats: Grand Lux Cafe

My sister, Ney, and I went to The Grande Lux Cafe for the first time with our Aunty MR.

After observing my Aunt interact with the waitstaff and order her food, I decided I want to be slightly bougie when I grow up. She ordered a delicious NOV pomegranate tea. I tried it and asked for a tea bag of it to-go. You see, bougie girls drink tea. That’s where I’m headed.

My overall impression of Grand Lux was good. The meal was around $15 (a little pricey) but the portions were BIG. I couldn’t finish my food at the restaurant; I didn’t even finish it when I took it to lunch. I finally demolished that bad boy for dinner! I had the apple pie a la mode for dessert, which left much to be desire. I liked the apple filling and the Bluebell ice cream. The pie crust was a little sour.

Grand Lux, for the good food, atmosphere, and great waitstaff gets my stamp of approval!

Good Eats: Baker Street Pub & Grill

Thanks to Tobs, I’ve been eating well and trying new place! We went to Baker Street Pub and Grill (for the second time). I’m a creature of habit so I ordered what I ordered the first time I went there– Sherlock Sliders!

The first time I had them, I had a trio of Fish, Southern Style chicken, and Beef. I looooved the fish. However, the Town center didn’t have fish. I went with three Southern style chicken sliders. Guess what, still delicious!

The fries were nicely seasoned and complimented the burgers excellently. My tummy was happy and so was my wallet. All the food was under $10.

Baker Street Pub & Grill gets my stamp of approval for these sliders!
