Happy (belated) Father’s Day

For Father’s Day Weekend, we took a trip to Corpus Christi, TX to celebrate one of my uncle’s birthday.

SATURDAY

When we got there, we drove to the docks at Pork Aransas for a boat ride. My cousins set up the boat ride as a present for their dad’s birthday.

We went sailing with a handsome sailor and his wife (Captain Tom & Linda). No, really his boat company is called the “Handsome Sailor Yacht Charters.” We had about 20 passengers on the yacht, close family members and friend celebrating with my uncle.

We started off using engine power to get us to the middle of the gulf, then we turned off the engine (which startled me at first) and switched to sail power. Capt. Tom let my sisters and I help put up the sails, with some guidance, of course. We had a great time! We didn’t see any dolphin this time, maybe next time.

If you’re interested in scheduling a boat ride, check out Handsome Sailor Yacht Charters. They are very sweet people.

 SUNDAY
We went to church at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship. It’s our 2nd time at the church. I liked it a lot.

Everyone took pictures with Daddy, looking sharp in his Nigerian native attire. Check out my mom and dad matching. They’re too cute!

Message to my Daddy:

Dear Daddy, thank you for being the man of God that you are. You are wise and you are unselfish with your knowledge. Thank you for all that you’ve sacrificed for us. I love you, Daddy. Happy Father’s Day!!

The kids’ section at the church had a cute airplane mural on the wall!

It was a fun little weekend trip. It made me realize I don’t need a full week for a vacation trip. 2-3 days is more than sufficient for a little getaway. If my car is up for challenge, I see some weekend roadtrips in my future. Of when I don’t feel like driving (which is often), I can take a Megabus.

“Great Find” Bundle from HeraNyx.com!

I rarely ever win anything so I was elated to when I won HeraNyx’s Great Find Giveway for the month of May. These are the lovely items that came in the package. I LOVE getting packages in the mail, so this made my day!

Green Envy

I’m giving away away these green flats at my Clothes Swap on Sunday. I don’t wear them anymore but they’re still cute (except for the scuff in the front of one of the shoes). I’ll fix the scuff before the swap.

They were a solid green until I was inspired to give them a light green trim. I used neon yellow spray paint to give it a glow. I like how they turned out, but I’m still going to give them away. I want someone else to enjoy these flats.

I’m Sexy and I Know It

I came across an article about the sexiest jobs of our generation and I was a little surprised to find TEACH FOR AMERICA at the #2 spot for sexiest jobs for women.

Read what they said about people in Teach for America:

This is flattering, albeit a little strange. I never think of my job as sexy, but I do notice people get a certain glimmer in their eyes when they hear I’m a TFA Corps member. I thought it was because they were reminiscing on one of their former teachers, now I know it’s because they think my job is sexy! Smart, sexy, and compassionate. Yep, that’s me! Lol.

As arbitrary as the list of  “The Top Ten Sexiest Jobs of Our Generation: Male & Female” is, it’s interesting to know what perceptions others have about your job. Of course, a lot of hot jobs were left off the list, but you can read the rest of the list here.

Happy [Half] Birthday to youuuuuuu.

Yes, the month of June marks NaturaleChronicles’ 6th month online. I started this blog on New Years day as an attempt to rid myself of the monotony of grown up life. It came at a time when I felt like I was losing myself, my joy, and my purpose. But in only 6 months, this wee little blog built up my spirit and granted me a renewed purpose.

This blog and you all helped me finish off my first year of teaching with a smile. So with sincere appreciation of the past and enduring optimism for the future, I thank you all!

Tour of My Room

I really like picture frames. I framed an inspiring student letter, inspiration greeting cards, awards, and family pictures. The Big Ben picture was my inspiration for the red accents.

My vanity corner:

Check out my DIY earring hanger

It’s a neon spray-painted foil pan! I recently found some spray paint on sale and bought three different colors. There’s also a hanging hand mirror. This is my new vanity area.

I used this earring organizer to organize my small craft pieces. Notice I have a lot of buttons and jewelry-making items. I was planning on making button earrings. Now that I have my craft glue and super glue, I can start making them.

Jewelry box

Ring holder on the left, hoop earrings in the center, button earrings on the right.

Notice the medicine case. I put my earring studs in there. It’s much more portable when I’m going on traveling.

Lipstick collection

I’m proud of myself for not going out and buying tons of lipstick lately. My collection has virtually stayed the same except for a few lipsticks. I’m loving this Avon Everlasting “Forever Burgundy” shade.

DIY station

My bookshelf (which my dad and I assembled) doubles as my craft storage. I got these sturdy bins from Ikea and they have been steadily helping me organize my life. I am obsessed with DIY so all my tools must be in reach at all times.

My work space

Cute elephant speakers (sound comes from his feet)

My bed. Same comforter from college. The bright stripes makes me happy!
This concludes the tour of my room.
