WAYW #16

This week I was in the knitted sweater mood. I wore a burnt orange sweater dress (with a blazer- not pictured), a peach knitted pullover, and a gray knitted sweater vest. Needless to say, I was warm and toasty all week.

My favorite outfit of the week was Thursday! It was comfortable and cozy. The color was great!

This week I caught a cold/cough so my outfits consisted of cardigans and scarves.

My favorite outfit was Friday’s outfit. It’s actually a short dress with a belted skirt on top. I stole this idea from my sis, Ineye. The bright earrings were from a beauty store!

My most questionable outfit was on Wednesday. I wore two different kinds of stripes, a pink and white striped shirt and a blue, pink, and white skirt. My sister raised a brow at my outfit at first before deciding she actually liked it. The school receptionist commented that she wouldn’t personally wear the outfit, but she respected me for trying it. Thank you? Anyway, here is a swatch of the stripes:

This week I mixed my casual pieces with dressy casual.

On wednesday, we took the kids to see a play called “The Ballad of Emmett Till” at the Ensemble Theatre. You should definitely go see it if you can. The lead, Joseph “JoeP” Palmore plays the charming and lovable Emmett Till.

On Friday, I and the other teachers chaperoned the Valentines Day dance. Ironically, when I was in middle school, I had not been allowed to attend our school dance. When I was chaperoning, I saw that the students were mostly shy with each other and just wanted to dance with their friends. I wore a khaki long praire skirt with my Miley Cyrus checked shirt. Lol.

Wednesday was my favorite outfit, Monday was my next favorite. Friday’s was really comfortable except for the shoes. I need to get over my height insecurities and invest in some good ole flats.

Upcycle Your Style with a CLOTHES SWAP

Are you in need of a fashion makeover but you have no cash to spare? Have you ever wanted to shop in someone else’s closet? Well, you might just be the perfect guest at a Clothes Swap party.

As someone with 2 sisters, I know there’s nothing better than snagging a few pieces from someone else’s closet to complete your look. I have been throwing Clothes Swap parties with my friends for a couple of years now. I love them!

[Benefits of a Clothes Swap]:

One (wo)man’s trash is another (wo)man’s treasure
I have had some people hesitate to come because they’re afraid they won;t have anything anyone will want. Little did they know that someone had been looking all over for some charcoal gray work slacks.

You get to go “shopping” with your friends
You also make a lot of new friends. This is how my work friends met my church friends. My only motto is you’re welcome as long as you bring something.

It’s in a comfortable setting (in this case, my living room)

You can set up mirrors and makeshift dressing  rooms

You get supportive advice from friends on what will best fit your shape

You can donate the remainder of the clothes to a non-profit organization

This is a good way to clean out your closet but at the end of the event your closet will be full again! It’s good practice to take the leftover clothes to a charity. This year, my charity of choice is Mia’s Closet Houston

My favorite benefit is: It’s FREE!!

It’s a great alternative to shopping. At the last one I hosted, I found everything from a zebra print blazer to a Kimono dress. “Free” is a style that works for everyone. Because it’s free you’ll be more likely to try on something you normally wouldn’t.

Although some fancy places choose to charge admission, I prefer to have free admission into the Clothes Swap Party. I highly doubt anyone is going to pay money to sit and try on clothes in my living room. It’s a fun time for my friends and I to mingle and shop.

My goal is to not shop until my Clothes Swap on March 3rd, but we’ll see what happens.

The * symbol means the outfit contains a thrifted item

This week was a busy week at school, which explains why I forgot to take a picture of Thursday’s outfit. Sorry!

Funny story about my purple dress from Wednesday. I was on the boys campus that day and a student complemented me on my dress. And then he says “My mom has that same dress, excepts she wears it as a nightgown. For all I know, since the dress was thrifted, it very well could have been a nightgown in another life. I had to play it off like it was on purpose. Lol.
