Skyzone, Houston

Lenithia, Janae, and I (fellow teachers). A couple of our students and Cidney (another teacher) below.

Over the weekend, I decided to be social and went to Skyzone with some friends. I had a blast.

Skyzone was pretty cheap ($13 for 60 minutes). We started in the main trampoline section. I have come to the conclusion that I might have missed some essential Trampoline 101 lesson during my childhood. The kiddos made the flips look effortless, but the minute I landed my floppy over-the-shoulder flip, I realized the perfect flip is the result of courage, flexibility, and pure athleticism. I was missing 2 out of 3…heck, all 3.

I somehow got peer pressured into playing 4 asthma-inducing rounds of dodgeball. I don’t even have asthma and I felt like asking for a pump. It was a lot of fun; I was the last (wo)man standing in dodgeball twice (despite the fact that I can’t throw to save my life, I can dodge like Leo in the Matrix).

We ended our fun at the foam area where I did a dive into a pool of blue foam. It was nice watching people’s techniques, or lack thereof. The latter was more entertaining to watch.

When I got to school on Monday, a student told me he saw me at Skyzone. I sincerely hope he didn’t see me during my fail flips.

Thrift Haul #2

Today I took advantage of my day off and stayed in, watched the Inauguration coverage, and went thrifting. I went to Family Thrift Outlet where everything was 75cents today. I bought about 12 items, all of which came to about $9.50! Yes, just under the budget! *fist pumps*

Here are some of my items:

I needed a few work pants, so I went searching. I found four pairs from brands GAP, The Limited, Issac Mizrahi and another random brand I hadn’t heard of. I was glad to find solid brands at such a low price. The only problem now is that I will have to hem most of the pants due to the fact that I’m short and I wear mostly flats.

Something about this shirt screams retro bowling league to me, but I like it!thrifthaul6a

Found a mini-skirt to go with my bright tights!

My sister has a super comfy movie sweater that I’ve been jealous of. This XL sweater does the trick.

Not pictured are a silk floral skirt, a blue and white trim blazer (for my mom), and a tan blazer (for my sister).

Total price: 12 items for $0.75 = $9 (plus $0.50ish in tax)

A day and money well-spent, wouldn’t you say?

I made a deal with myself and my closet that for every 2 new items I bought, I needed to donate one thing. It looks like I’m going to have to toss out 4 old things. Yikes. I’m going to comb through my closet. I’m sure there’s a pair of daisy dukes crying out for a new home.

Sunday Best #19

SUNDAY

This grey baby doll dress was from my last clothes swap. I paired it with a lace removable peter pan collar. I’m actually wearing two pairs of tights for a double layered look. I got the burnt orange tights from Target and wore some sheer polka dot tights on top. I’ve been loving this layered tights look. It makes colored tights look a little more sophisticated. I wore my Mary Janes to complete the look.

I did the layering tights trick again. This time with my Apple-Red pair plus sheer hearts pair. The result is a wine color. I wore a long-sleeve tee that I got from Naturallycurly.com a few years ago with a grey skirt and wine snake-print loafers.

I’m an Aunt, once removed…huh?

My cousin just had a baby girl and we’re so happy for her!

So I decided to google what my official title is in relation to my cousin’s baby. According to my research, my first cousin’s baby is my first cousin, once removed. That sounds crazy to me. When I was a kid and heard someone was a relative once or twice removed, I always wondered what crime they had committed to be removed from the family. Turns out, once or twice removed refers to the generation between the relatives. Anyway, ain’t nobody got time for that. Thank God that in Nigerian culture everyone is “Auntie” and “Uncle”. I’ll take “Auntie Timi.” I’m going to call her and my other cousin’s baby my nieces, even though it’s not technically correct. We’ll clear it up when they’re older heheh.

Don’t you just love a fresh face! I’m so excited that my eyebrows finally grew in and I found a lovely concealer/mousse foundation/powder that doesn’t leave me looking shiny. The ever-present winged tip and red lips are my staples.

Update:

These are my main style agents

Top 10 Desires for 2013

At our house, we have a scrapbook resolution tradition that we do on New Years Eve. We make a poster of what we want for the upcoming year. I love this tradition. Here’s my poster. See if you can decipher some of my desires for 2013. I’ll tell you a few of them.

Resolutions

This year, I will be turning 24 and I know that God is going to show out in a mighty way. I have a few things that I desire to accomplish before the year is over. Note I didn’t mention resolutions. For some reason, my mind, body, and soul go out of their way to spite my resolutions so I’m going to call them desires instead.

1. Get into an Out-of-State Graduate program

2. Get more organized

3. Establish my style which I call “Professoriate”

– Professoriate style is quirky, eclectic, and includes tortoise-shell glasses, blazers, cardigans, and loafers.

7. Learn to do more things with my hands (sew w/ a machine, build, design…)

8. Sky dive for my 24th birthday (I won’t be stopped this year!)

9. Be on stage more (The Voice?)

10. MS150?? (BIGGEST CHALLENGE)

On a side note, for the sake of my readers and instagram followers I hope I can find an alternative to those sophomoric mirror picture. I hope someone loves me enough to start taking them for me ;)
